What Would You Do?

Getting back up on my feet today. Yes, it's true, I got knocked off 'em, Again. What do I keep tripping on, what is this wall I've run into, yet again?  What is the loop, the pattern that is emerging that calls for attention?

Demanding CHANGE?

Each time I hear a new story, bear witness to the actions, reactions, and consequences on the affected people of our communities, families, and overlapping spheres of contact - it's another intersection of information, a data point in a set that is continually expanding the big picture - the larger story in which we are all starring.

http://www.theautomaticearth.com/2010/01/fractal-adaptive-cycles-in-natural-and-human-systems/
Panarchy (Nested Adaptive Cycles)
What I'm coming into personally, is my looooong view, one of the advantages of being a grandmother is I can now see patterns over a few generations of nested cycles.  I see my daughter falling into the same patterns that I fell into, I can see my grandson's father following a pattern of breakdown now prevalent in so many of his generation and mine before it, with roots going deep into artificially constructed  societal 'norms' that run counter to human nature.

I can see it for simply being, that things ARE changing, Again, and once I zoom out a bit..  get a bit of time and space between the emotional response and the factual observations.. then I can see what must change, and I will BE that change.

The impetus, the spark that re-ignites embers of passion for diving fully into those changes, is back again to my own progeny, whereas for these last few years, it has been at that zoomed out scale.. in service to those working to better this planet that our children will inherit from us.  Or at least, stop effin it up so bad.

It has now been brought sharply down to the most intimate of detail..  to my grandson, my daughter, and to the recognition that we have this vast village of sisters, brothers, aunties and uncles, elders, which, when united by love and compassion, has the power to break negative patterns, to stop passing on old trauma stories in the retelling, reliving, reinforcing of outmoded thinking that encourages divisiveness and separateness.

Do you know this City High song, What would you do? This is 'what I called life' for a LOT of years. I danced to make money raising my daughter on my own, I went on welfare to get out of it, left her in the care of others way too much to get through that year of school with honors and 'get a job' through staying put instead of heading out to explore the world.  I vowed she would never lack for anything - then wasn't there for her because I was working all the time to pay for daycare (considerably more than rent) and all the trappings of career life, and.. I still had to keep dancing on the side to make it through much of the time.

Now she's faced with the same scenario of raising a child as a single mother - while deep in recovery from her own mistakes that have cost her freedom and livelihood.  Are we still in the same paradigm of, "if my mother did it, you can too girl", get up on your feet, tough love world?

I already lived it.  My mom was gone when I hit high school, I had 7 half/step sisters and brothers mostly younger than me so the rest of my extended parental units still had their hands full doing the same damn thing.   I went and did what the song says, Got up on my feet and let go of every excuse.  Became the corporate whore instead of the dance floor queen, sold my soul instead of my art.  And you know what, I made the very best of it, I learned to love my choices and my life.  And yet, I was still doing it all for money, so I could feed my baby.  And I am still working my way through the mountains of guilt and valleys of shame just as my own mother is, finding peace somewhere in our having done the best we could, with what we knew at the time.

Do I wish this on my own child?  HELL NO.

The patterns of a colonial culture, the systemic oppression and resulting competitive, get out there and fight your way up mentalities are still present in our minds, our belief systems.  The rites of passage have been reduced to get a degree, get a job, a car, a house.. go do it yourself, instead of we do this together.  And so present also is this inherited abandonment, the feeling of being left alone to do something that we now know it takes a village to do well.

What does it really look like, for a village to come together in ways that help us raise children in healthier, more resilient environments that can carry us, and them, through tragedy and back up onto our collective feet again?

Is it coming together for a fundraiser to get them through the tough time?  Is it sending all the love and prayers, well wishes, and a meal delivered with a hug here or there that we can eek out of our own already overwhelmed lives in these times of shifting values and priorities and demands for survival?

What does a Village look like in action??  I want to know.  I want to see it.

I believe in it, and therefore I need to do everything in my power to become that village for this child and grandchild of mine and yet...

To become it in a different way than what's been done before.  To encompass the full interconnected map of people, doing wonderful things together, with each other, for each other.. and for the health and wealth of the village... instead of on my own, for my own.

What would you do?

Twenty Three Angels

Our Sacred Acres is my home, and my business.

Being OSA.  That's my job.

Bringing people together intentionally,
to co-create a culture of integrity and connection, bridging worlds through shared experience in nature.

I haven't been wearing my fundraiser hat lately, because, I've been working at some other things, building collaborative relationships..

Building the dream I'm ready to live, with everyone who shares it.

And that is you, dearest one.

My family, friends, the entire web of relations that I encompass with the breadth of my love, my vision and experience forward and backwards and in all directions, and every ounce of energy I expend in this lifetime of lives well lived.   I wholeheartedly give all that I am to all of you, because it's my joy to do so.

AND my job!  As the Founder and Executive Director of this business, I put that hat on here this morning, and share a little story of what you are a part of by .. being OSA with me.

Will you choose to be part of the work at hand in the world and on this land, today, with me?  There's a simple decision to make:

Just click the link and enter some numbers..  it's that easy.

In the coming hours, days, and weeks, I'll be sharing exactly how this gift makes it possible for OSA to exist and evolve into the future, who will be stewarding the process, and how.  I will be telling the tales as they happen of how gift seeds planted in the soil here last year just need a bit of water right now to bloom into a full garden.  Our fruits are materializing in the form of entrepreneurial and collaborative endeavors, launching together in mutual support for sustainability of people and place.

Do you want to hear how the story turns out?  What lessons we learn, what beauty is created, how joyfully regenerative we will be together?

I can do this, knowing you are here with me.  cash.me/$Danibelle

This post is my way to make abundant that you can make YOUR presence in this dream known, to any degree possible with a financial contribution to the land that provides and guides our work.

Directly supporting the care and feeding of the trees, waters, land and all who have and will breathe the air here as we build the structures, containers, relationships of our interconnected village everywhere.

Our Sacred Acres is a non-profit project of 501(c)3 for-impact organization Empowerment WORKS, and you can sponsor projects directly, receiving the benefits of our many network alliances and partnerships.  Check out all the 'ships' at our website..

Or just click here!   cash.me/$OurSacredAcres

This business of community development that I have given away my heart to, is currently a non-profit endeavor to get us off the ground together from this little 3 acre home base on Panther Creek in Snohomish, Washington, Cascadia, Pacifica, Turtle Island, Earth.

There is so much to harvest from our collective experience.. so much to celebrate together, and patterns are clearly emerging that can be reflected upon and seen with our wiser eyes..  I'd love to continue mapping the culture- and place-making projects that are guiding communities into deeper relationships with themselves and the lands we inhabit.

This summer has been a work of art, a masterpiece of collaboration, and it has been entirely volunteer organized, facilitated, practiced, embodied.. for the entire year so far.  We've been in service to the dream, and the outward manifestation of that has been visible and tangible, made material, in the events we've produced, the experiences we've shared, the connections made.

Monthly DreamDances in the city, regenerative action days at the farm, permaculture workshops and retreats at OSA, intentional, sacred space at arts & music festivals, and an entire village brought to being in tandem with others at Cascadia NW on the Masonic lands..   from these places, with these people, our own hands..

We co-created AN AWESOME VILLAGE.

Let's keep building TOGETHER.

Stage 2 of OSA has been in the works this whole time..  and the councils, the boards, the partnerships and coalitions are engaged, drafting agreement fields, committing to one another and this home, this place, this business.

We are only building what is called for - what is being asked of us to do - by our community, by our homes and families, and can only do it together..

Will you  help us take the very next step?  To produce the contracts necessary for us to remain in existence and continue on our path of cocreation by stepping into business incubation and launching into the 'Do' phase of the Dream?

Small steps.  And one step at a time.

Today I ask for 23 angels to step forward and say, I'm part of OSA.

14 angels donating $100 to the land fund through our nonprofit to cover operating expenses this month.  These angels may either receive personally or delegate to a community scholarship recipient a nights stay at OSA in the space of their choice with a royal treatment experience for the day that must be redeemed in the month of October.

See spaces here, and email danibelle@oursacredacres.com to reserve your date with OSA.

Articulating the Dream, Together

I don't so much script write, or, prepare
what I have to share
as dive in deep to a teaching, then integrate and embody
the experience.
Listening closely, quietly.. for when it's ready to come out, then allowing the words to choose themselves.

That's when I know it's my heart speaking.

In modeling this mode of self-expression, I seek to emerge a new language with you..
To reflect clearly what I see, and show each of you who take your time to hear me speak..
How beautiful you are.

That we all may know from one another
what a beautiful world we co-create together

when we consciously choose to learn
from every given moment

and each unique genius that shows up in our sphere.

What we do here, now, when we gather
Commune, if you will!

To share with one another
Giving AND receiving
That which we have harvested from
our journey down the path we last walked

To set intentions before one another for which road to next travel
Where we are setting our sights next, what winds now fill our sails and passion fuels our spirit

Our thoughts are builders..

Our dreams are the visions by which our minds draft the blueprints..

And the universe delivers that which we are asking for in unison.

You are the creator - you are calling in the new world with every breath and every action..

Whether you are aware of it or not.

So BE AWARE!!!

Listen.. Can you hear the music of the land?  of the water that moves through us ALL?

What is the one song that we will sing together, and what's YOUR resonation, your pitch, your tone?
There's a space in this harmony for every individuation and unique self-expression..

The Earth is communing with herself through us and our myriad reflections of possibility to one another.   May every voice be heard ..  be raised to speak of that which we all believe in most passionately..  the most beautiful of our dreams.

And may it be in the universal language

of LOVE.

I AM: ALL My Relations

On Ancestry, Heritage, Blood and Water...

I am a grandmother.
My daughter was born to this world in 1990, when I was 20 years old.
Her son was born to this world in 2011, when she was 20 years old.
He is a warrior of love, of mischief, of magic and of the future.
I AM.. Loki.

I am a granddaughter.
My maternal great-grandfather was born in New York to a Syrian refugee and a French-Canadian woman. My maternal grandmothers were born to this world as both indigenous and settlers..  they are the Filles du Roi, 'daughters of the king',  sent to the Americas as wives for the hunters, trappers, furriers of the 'new world'.  They are also the stolen First Peoples, Mi'kmaq squaws that were displaced from their native lands and taken as wives by colonizers from Europe.  And too, my ancestors are great athletes descended from German immigrants, and they are matriarchs of vast families of international lineage in the Great Lakes region where I was born.  My grandparents adopted over 20 children, many with disabilities, and fostered over 100 more before my grandma died of cancer in her early 40's.  I was nearly two.
I AM.. All Peoples.

I am a love child.
My mother's first husband was abusive, and threw her out of a second story window at a Christmas party.  She walked in her torn dress to a nearby gas station, and went home with the attendant there who loved her even though she was married.  I was conceived then, and when she returned to tell him she was divorcing her husband and the baby is his, he doubted her, and was marrying another woman.  I was born in September, 1969, and my birth certificate bore her former husbands name though he never laid eyes upon me.  I was adopted by my mom's third husband, who raised me and my sister from the second marriage as his own.  I have half sisters, step siblings, foster aunts and uncles of every ancestry, background, circumstance...  and more cousins that I can ever possibly know.
I AM.. Family.

I am a custodian.
My path and purpose brought me here to Cascadia, to the Salish Sea, to OSA, after living through many powerfully formative experiences, initiations, adventures, separations, and lifestyles that Michigan's fresh waters availed to me for immersion.  These places have taught me the deepest lessons life has to offer... forgiveness, resilience, compassionate care, and that with every thought formed, story told, action taken, we create the life we believe we have coming to us.  My door, my heart, my arms, my mind and my eyes are wide open to all that pass through; and the greatest gift I can offer forth to all is the opportunity to see what is possible in you reflected in me.  Truly seeing, every being, as life!  As love!  I weep for the spirit of each tree that is cut down just as I cherish the memories of the angels that walk this earth when their body returns to the soil.  I continue to practice, and still have much to learn in the caretaking of myself, my communities, my stuff, my one planet.
I AM.. Home.

I am me... energy.

I am free... elementally.

I am held, eternally.

I are we, says E.E. ...

ReInhabiting the Village: CoCreating our Future

A celebration of our many villages at Cascadia NW Arts & Music Fest.

What is a Village?

People, in Places, Doing Projects... Together.

Our Sacred Acres (OSA), located in the Coast Salish/ Snohomish Valley of NW Washington State, is more than these three acres for which my legal entity has assumed responsibility.

OSA is more than just a place!

It’s a hub in our village, with many spokes and persons and councils that spiral out geographically and energetically.  It is also all our neighbors and the neighboring lands, it is the waters that move through her and bubble out of the mountain-fed springs to fill our well, and as much as all that, Our Sacred Acres is the people who’ve labored (for love) here.  It has become what you brought, what you got, and it goes with each of those people to the next place and project, rippling out that frequency of hOMe.

This place, and each person that carries that village experience outward and right back in again, are but one tiny little fractal of what’s possible and emergent in stewardship of the astonishingly beautiful, natural gifts here on this planet of which we are ALL caretakers. One place in time and space of many in this global village, (re)inhabited by people who consciously choose to show up here and participate now in community.

People just like me and you!

reinhabitingthevillage.com

The above is an excerpt from my story in ReInhabiting the Village: CoCreating our Future, a multi-media book and online resource hub co-created by an alliance of coalition partners contributing their knowledge and perspectives to foster thriving projects, organizations, and communities.

My entry is in the Community Land Projects section, and I am so honored to be included in this incredible collection.

It's a physical and virtual compendium of what is emergent in community development and earth activism; stories that tell of what is happening right now...  and everyone involved has given their all to produce this in order to share it..

With you.

My eternal gratitude, admiration, and deepest respect to the curator of this massive project, dear sister Jai Ma, Jamaica Stevens...

And the entire team that dedicated themselves to presenting this village of voices, speaking from the h'art of Gaia herself.

We've been on this journey for years, lifetimes within this lifetime even, with utility belts on, pulling wrenches from the machine and building the dream..  together.

The tools and templates crafted by our worldwide community and contained in this collaborative project come from a vast cross-section of local and global actions, woven together into a holistic roadmap..  a blueprint for building our legacy as the generation present on the planet to steward us through these shifting times.

My contribution to this project is incredibly compact at this moment - such a brief overview of this labor of love known to all as OSA, or Our Sacred Acres!  And yet, the power is in the relationships between the people who are sharing of themselves so fully - presenting the gift of our purposeful presence in these simple words and images as an offering to anyone who has dreamed of the possibilities entertained within them.

I started blogging here as The Office Mystic in June of 2011... that was when I realized.. I AM an artist, I AM a writer.

And today, I AM published, productive, and positively ecstatic to still be in that flow!!
